With the New Year upon us, I like to alert everyone of a virus called Crypto-Locker. This virus is spread via email, disguise as a PDF tracking notice from a courier or shopping invoice
When the dodgy attachment file is clicked on. The virus will search your entire PC, network, and encrypt your documents. It then demands a ransom of $300 within 96 hours. Or you risk losing all your files forever!
So, if you notice your computer is infected – my tip! – disconnect the PC from the Internet – it can’t encrypt without the Internet
If you see the big red screen (it’s too late), your only option is to pay the ransom or restore from backup. What’s worst, the ransom is paid using Bit-Coin so it’s impossible for authorities to track.
So with everyone’ shopping online – please be aware & watch out for any dodgy emails
